SENTIENS ANNOUNCES PATENT CLAIMS FOR BOTANICBOOST™ TO BE GRANTED BY US PATENT OFFICE

 BotanicBoost™: Satisfaction without Nicotine

Charlotte, NC / October 15, 2013 / –  Sentiens, LLC announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (“PTO”) issued a Notice of Allowance on October 9th, 2013 in Application No. 13/710,801, “Device and Method for Simulating Chemosensation of Smoking”.  This application covers the technology behind the effectiveness of BotanicBoost™ and its use in products developed by the Company, such as the Novus® Twig and eTwig by Novus®.  A Notice of Allowance, issued by the PTO, is a notification that an applicant is entitled to a patent.  The patent is expected to issue within approximately two months.

The allowed ‘801 application discloses a device that simulates the sensations of smoking in the throat and airways and botanic agents that activate specific sensory receptors, without delivering nicotine or tobacco-related toxins.  The specific type of “chemosensation” involved is a fundamental sensory function, distinct from taste and smell, and stimulation of the proper nerve endings can trigger a broad range of complex sensations and reflexes.  In the allowed ‘801 application, the focus is on how these sensations and reflexes can be used to effectively mimic smoking and the body’s initial reaction to nicotine.

Sentiens continues to pursue several additional patent applications covering other devices and agents working under the same theories of chemosensation but for other behaviors and experiences.

Unique BotanicBoost™ Boost Formula

BotanicBoost™ is a proprietary platform technology that focuses on a deep understanding of how the human body functions, particularly how the body’s sensory system acts as a primary pathway for our initial reaction to our environment and to the body’s response to those stimuli.  This is an underappreciated and unexploited area of research in the context of smoking and other health issues. More information about BotanicBoost™ and the products developed by Sentiens can be found at www.novus1.com.

Company research has shown that BotanicBoost™ can satisfy smokers when they are looking to smoke.  72% of those trying Novus® said it provided similar satisfaction, even without nicotine.  The ingredients in BotanicBoost™ are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for food use by the FDA.  The Novus® products are not drugs, medical devices or tobacco products.
